Ofloxacin 200 mg + Ornidazole 500 mg
A co-combination drug of Ofloxacin 200 mg + Ornidazole 500 mg is used as a treatment for some kinds of bacterial and protozoal infections. In this combination, the antibiotic works due to their antibacterial properties. Ornidazole is a nitroimidazole class of antibiotic, and it is paired with a fluoroquinolone class of antibiotic with the name Ofloxacin.
Uses of Ofloxacin 200 mg + Ornidazole 500 mg
- Bacterial Infections: The combination was effective for gastrointestinal tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and sexually transmitted infections.
- Protozoal infections include amoebiasis, giardiasis, and trichomoniasis, to name a few of the other diseases for which it is given.
- Diarrhea: It can be used to treat adult diarrhea from mixed infections.
Mechanism of Action
- Ofloxacin: Inhibition of two important DNA replication and repair enzymes, topoisomerase IV and bacterial DNA gyrase, leads to the death of the bacterial cells.
- Ornidazole: causes cell death through the alteration of DNA in susceptible organisms.
- The usual dose for adults might range from 200 to 800 mg a day, depending on the infection’s severity. Take the tablets whole with water; best taken with meals for reduced gastrointestinal side effects.
